Aquacultured
Purple TriColor Acropora

Actual
color, not touched up
|
We received some very exotic tricolored
thin branched Acropora species from the Solomon Islands a while
ago. They were referred to as a true Acropora nana. They tended
to develop purple coloration over most of their surface area,
and maintained their pigmentation quite well in captivity. We
now have aquacultured specimens of this coral available. They
have under great conditions been developing an intense purple
coloration over the entire body surface. Perhaps it should be
called a bicolor (purple with green polyps). The coral needs
moderate to intense light to develop the purple over its entire
surface. Purple branches can be maintained in weak to moderate
lighting. |

Hippocampus Reidi

Orange/Red
Hippocuampus Reidi
Description: Also called the Long
Snout Seahorse, the Hippocampus Reidi Seahorse is one of the
most beautiful of all seahorse species, displaying almost unnatural
shades of yellow, orange, and red.Tank Bred in Sri Lanka , their
coloration may change in the aquarium and is highly dependent
on the colors of its environment. They are a slender, narrow
bodied slow growing sea horse that can reach in an aquarium lengths
of 51/2 - 6 inches long and may live 5 to 7 years with proper
care. Rated the most popular, exotic and colorful sea horse in
the world by hobbyists everywhere, they are native to the waters
of Brazil. They best when kept as either a mated pair, or with
a small group of its own kind in a species-only aquarium of 20
gallons or larger. The taller the aquarium, the better, at least
12 inches high is best, as good circulation is most important.
It will get along well with small, shy fish such as gobies, ocellaris
and percula clowns, and firefish. But aggressive, territorial
fish, or fast-moving fish do not make good companions. When ready
to mate, the male Brazilian Reidi Seahorse will impress the female
with its dramatic color changes, energetic pouch displays, and
lots of graceful dancing. If receptive, the future mate will
entwine tails, dance, and promenade with it, and then deposit
as many as 600 eggs in the male pouch. About 14 days later, the
male will give birth between 50-400 perfect miniature replicas
of the pair.
Minimum Tank
Size: The Hippocampus Reidi
prefers a tank of at least 20 gallons and good circulation is
most important. Have gorgonians, other plants in the tank for
the seahorses to hold on to.
Diet: Seahorses do best when fed twice a day
and do well on a diet of brine and mysid shrimp, amphipods and
other macroscopic life. Offer frozen Mysis shrimp, frozen Brine
Shrimp plus, Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef (Frozen), and other small
meat based foods.

Red Mangrove
Plants

Excellent
addition for Water Quality
The Hawiian Red Mangrove is a plant
that can be used as a natural method of filtration and means
of Natural Nitrate Reduction in either saltwater or freshwater
aquariums.
Management:
Mangroves absorb nutrients
from the water in order to grow, and help lower nitrates and
phosphates in the aquarium. The use of mangroves plants for filtration
in a saltwater aquarium, particularly for helping to reduce and
control nitrates is not a new concept. However, this is changing
because more and more aquarists are looking for a "natural"
method of filtration for their aquariums, so mangroves are drawing
lots of attention. Mangroves not only have the ability to absorb
nitrates, but phosphates and other organics as well. |

to a piece of live rock. Palythoa grandis is one of the larger
colonial polyps that will attain a diameter of up to 1 inch.
They are a very beautiful species that will gain a mottled brown,
green, tan and white coloration. They are easy to maintain, making
them a good choice for the beginner reef aquarists. They will
reproduce easily in the reef aquarium by budding (splitting off
a portion of their base or mouth), which will increase the size
of their colony. Cinnamon Polyps ship with 3 to 4 polyps attached
to a small piece of live rock. |

Green Algae Plant

Besides adding beauty to any aquarium,
marine plants have become quite popular for use as "algae-scrubbing
filters" to remove excess ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates
from the aquarium. In addition, they help remove heavy metals
and neutralize toxins. Marine plants also provide a pH buffer
and
produce chemicals which protect the skin, intestines, and gills
of aquarium fish. That's an alwful lot of help from marine plants,
that's why they are so popular in the marine aquarium system!
In addition to helping clarify your water by absorbing nitrates,
carbon dioxide and some metals, marine plants also serve as a
food source for many marine species whether they feed
directly on the algae itself or on microfauna attracted to the
algae. |

Cultured
Green Gracillaria

|
Grown outdoors in open water systems.
An air - generated method of tumbling the algae in large vats
is employed to culture them. They are not connected to any system
containing fish so as to avoid possible parasite contamination.
There are multiple uses for macroalgaees in marine aquariums.
The most common use is for feeding purposes. Herbivorous fish,
such as Tangs, love to eat fresh algae. It contains the natural
nutrition to help prevent Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE),
a common long-term care problem with Angelfish and Tangs. It
is also know to contain Beta-carotine, an immune system stimulator.
Another use is in reef tank refugiums and algae scrubbers. Here
the algae absorbs excess nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates,
in the tank and produces oxygen. In addition, it helps remove
heavy metals and neutralize's toxins. Gracillaria and other macroalgaes
also provide a pH buffer and produce chemicals which protect
the skin, intestines, and gills of aquarium fish. That's an alwful
lot of help!It also helps support numbers of small shrimp and
other microfauna providing biodiversity. Finally , it helps remove
heavy metals and neutralize's toxins. Macroalgae's generally
require about 8 hours of light daily to continue to grow well.
This can be either flourescent or pc's. Their photosynthesis
produces oxygen and will also increase the pH. |

of Caulerpa

|
Among aquarists, Caulerpa sp. is
the best known marine macroalgae. There are 75 species of this
green algae which come from a variety of geographical areas.
Caulerpa are beneficial in several ways. They provide food for
other tank inhabitants by offering a favorable environment for
microfauna to develop. The microfauna are eaten by fish and other
tank inhabitants. Some fish eat the Caulerpa itself. In the majority
of large modern public aquariums Caulerpa is raised because of
it's healing qualities. Ill fish often recover rapidly when Caulerpa
is in the aquarium.Caulerpa has also become quite popular for
use in "algae-scrubbing filters" to remove excess ammonia,
nitrates, and phosphates from the aquarium. In addition, it helps
remove heavy metals and neutralize's toxins. Caulerpa also provides
